INTERVIEWER: What are three words that describe you best?
RESPONSE 1: Uh I’d probably say smart, athletic, and funny.
RESPONSE 2: Funny? Really?
INTERVIEWER: How would you describe Mason?
RESPONSE 2: Not funny. I’d say he’s smart, and outgoing, and he’s goofy.
INTERVIEWER: That means funny.
INTERVIEWER: What do you like best about yourself?
RESPONSE 1: I like that I’m creative and I’m good at drawing and my hair, I like my hair.
INTERVIEWER: What do you like best about her?
RESPONSE 2: About her? Probably that she’s just a good person. She always has something nice to say to everyone.
RESPONSE 1: Except maybe my brother.
RESPONSE 2: Okay. Almost everyone.
INTERVIEWER: If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
RESPONSE 1: I think I would speak up more when something’s bothering me. I tend to avoid confrontation.
RESPONSE 2: I could probably speak out less. I usually just say whatever’s on my mind. Sometimes it gets me into trouble.
INTERVIEWER: Which is more important. How you see yourself or how others see you?
RESPONSE 1: I’d like to say how I see me, but I don’t think that’s always the case. You want people to like you. And, I think people are willing to change themselves just to fit in with other people’s expectations.
RESPONSE 2: Like wearing a certain kind of clothes. Or liking a certain kind of music. You do stuff to fit in and be accepted.
RESPONSE 1: Even if that’s not who you really are.
INTERVIEWER: Is that a problem?
RESPONSE 2: If it means going against something you feel strongly about. Or, something you know is right. Or, if you don’t like the person you're turning into.
RESPONSE 1: Then, it’s just not worth it.
INTERVIEWER: Where does self-esteem come from?
RESPONSE 1: I think some of it comes from what people see around them. From what they see on television and what they read on social media. It’s hard not to compare yourself to other people. Or to let what other people say about you change how you see yourself.
RESPONSE 2: But you don’t have to. I mean, you get to choose how you see yourself. You choose to believe that what people say about you is true or not. And I think you just need to be confident and be comfortable with yourself no matter what other people say.
